My name is Miranda and I invite you to follow my wild journey through life!
I have had to overcome many obstacles. When I was five years old, my dad passed away suddenly from a heart attack, so my two siblings and I were raised by a single mom. I was also born with a condition called posteromedial tibial bowing, which caused my left leg to be bent outwards and grow at a much slower rate. Throughout childhood, I required multiple surgeries to lengthen and straighten my leg in order to walk properly. Over time, additional issues with my health surfaced, requiring more procedures and hospital stays. After one traumatic experience in the hospital, I developed post traumatic stress disorder.
All of this has taught me that connection and community are two of the most important things in life. There have been many people who have supported and guided me through very difficult times and I know I would not have come this far without them. This has inspired me to pay it forward by being there for other young people experiencing similar medical or mental health challenges. It has also led me to fundraising for local and global organizations, advocating for patient and family centred care, and raising awareness about mental health.
I have learned to live with gratitude and joy, and my experiences have helped me to find my passions. I feel a constant need to explore the world, love being out in nature, and aspire to become a doctor. This website is a way for me to build a virtual community while sharing my journey as I ride the waves of life. I hope that by sharing my experiences, it might help others to feel less alone.
